JACKSON CENTER, Ohio — The Indians were in desperate need of a win.
They had lost three in a row and were 4-6 on the season.
The Tigers provided a much-needed reprieve from a tough start to the schedule.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team halted its three-game losing streak with a 61-22 win over the Jackson Center Tigers on Tuesday.
The Indians (5-6) were out front 11-3 after the first quarter and went into halftime leading 24-9. They continued to pour it on the Tigers, outscoring the home team 15-3 in the third before exploding for 22 points in the final eight minutes.
Alli Vaughn had a career-high 15 points to lead the Indians, and Val Muhlenkamp finished with 11 points. Olivia Patch tossed in eight points while Macy Day and Brooke Kahlig had six points each. Kierra Wendel, Patch and Muhlenkamp grabbed five rebounds apiece.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team lost, 26-25. Elena Evers led the team with 10 points while Grace Guggenbiller contributed five points for the 3-8 Indians.
SA boys win, girls fall
BERNE — The South Adams boys swim team defeated the Bellmont Braves on Tuesday, 89-76.
The Starfire girls lost, 98-64.
Kam Yoder, Parker Collingsworth and Curtis Sprunger each won a single event for the SAHS boys. Yoder was first in the 50-yard freestyle, Collingsworth won the 100 backstroke and Sprunger got a victory in the 100 breaststroke.
The 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams were also first.
Ashley LeFever and Isabel Von Gunten both had a pair of wins for the Starfire girls. LeFever won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke events. Von Gunten beat the field in the 50 and 100 freestyle races.
Claire Burson got a win in the 500 freestyle. South Adams’ 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays also won.
SAMS boys fall
BERNE — South Adams’ seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both came up short against St. Joseph Catholic on Tuesday.
The seventh graders (3-7) lost 22-15, and the eighth graders fell 31-30 to dip to 3-8 on the year.
Conner Fear’s six points were tops on the team for the SAMS seventh graders. Isaac Dee contributed four points while Owen Wanner tossed in three points.
Matt Steiner and Kyle Minger scored 10 and eight points respectively for the eighth grade Starfires. Brady Beall followed with six points.
