COLDWATER, Ohio — Dyllan Garringer went undefeated.

So did Zakk Atkins, Jordan Schricker and Mason Winner.

And in his season debut after serving a suspension, Chandler Chapman was perfect as well.

Five individuals didn’t lose a single match on Saturday, helping the Jay County High School wrestling team finish 4-1 in the Coldwater Duals.

The Patriots (15-7), who finished third out of three teams that went 4-1 based on tie-breaking criteria, grabbed wins over Van Wert (53-28), Coldwater (43-30) and Coldwater’s B team (72-12) before suffering a 35-32 setback to Celina. Jay County then rebounded with a 39-30 win over Clyde.

Garringer, Atkins, Schricker, Winner and Chapman all were 5-0 on the day, and Blayne Daniels ended his day 4-1. Thomas Hemmelgarn and Cooper Jacks each went 3-2, while Tair Abladalomov, Ian Ruiz and Garrett Mann were all 2-3.

Lucas Schmit ended 2-2, Cody Richards was 1-4, Dawson Frasher won his only match and Lita Chowning was winless in five tries.



Jay tops Stars

BLUFFTON — Jay County’s boys basketball team bounced back from a loss in the tournament quarterfinal on Tuesday to beat South Adams 55-36 on Saturday in the consolation game of the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament at Bluffton.

The Patriots (9-4) led the Starfires (1-11) 12-5 after the first quarter and pushed the advantage to 25-16 at halftime. Jay County, which hosts South Adams on Friday, outscored the Starfires 16-10 in the third quarter before a 14-10 margin in the final eight minutes.

Michael Schlechty of Jay County led all players with 17 points, including 11 in the third quarter. Noah Arbuckle joined him in double figures with 10 points, and Ryan Schlechty chipped in six points. Parker Grimes (six points), Gavin Randall (five) and Gabe Link (four) also hit the scoresheet for Jay County.

South Adams, which has lost seven straight games, got 16 points from Aidan Wanner, including four first-half 3-pointers. Nick Miller tossed in eight points, as Drew Stutzman and Trey Schoch notched three points apiece.
