FORT RECOVERY — The Indians inched closer to the .500 mark.
The Starfires fell even for the year.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team was dominant on defense and even better on the glass Tuesday in a 77-23 clobbering of the South Adams Starfires.
The Indians (6-7) opened with a 14-4 lead after the first quarter before blowing it open with a 24-9 margin in the second for a 38-13 advantage at the break.
Fort Recovery simply got stronger in the third quarter as it poured in 29 points and kept pulling away in the final eight minutes.
South Adams (10-10) shot just 22.2 percent from the field (6-of-27) while committing 31 turnovers. Fort Recovery was hardly challenged on the glass as it held a 49-18 edge in rebounds.
Paige Fortkamp scored a career-high 19 points for Fort Recovery, and her nine rebounds were second on the team. Val Muhlenkamp also tallied 19 points and collected 10 rebounds for a double-double. Alli Vaughn finished with 14 points while Kierra Wendel and Macy Day chipped in six points each.
Emilee Myers and Lydia Loshe led South Adams with 10 points apiece.
Fort Recovery also won the junior varsity contest, 45-31.
Chiefs, Bruins split
The East Jay Middle School girls basketball teams split with the Blackford Bruins on Tuesday.
East Jay’s seventh graders won 37-24, while the eighth graders fell to the undefeated Bruins 43-26.
Hannah Laux scored 12 points to help the EJMS seventh graders hand the Bruins their first loss of the season. Both teams are now 12-1. Sophie Saxman chipped in nine points, and Breanna Dirksen followed with five points.
Bralee VanSkyock tallied five points and Molly Muhlenkamp ended with three points.
Renna Schwieterman’s eight points were tops for the eighth grade Chiefs (12-2). Lydia Keihn and Kylee Carreno finished with three points apiece while Cassidy Upp and Maggie Dillon tossed in two points each.
EJ 8th tops Delta
MUNCIE — East Jay’s eighth grade boys basketball team edged the host Delta Eagles on Tuesday, 36-33.
The Chief seventh graders fell, 36-14.
Dawson Hundley paced the eighth grade Chiefs with 15 points, and Bennett Weitzel contributed 11 points in the win. Josh Dowlen and Carter Link scored six and four points respectively.
Sam Myers had six points to lead the EJMS seventh graders. Justin DeHoff tossed in three points while Abraham Dirksen and Bryce Wenk had two points each.
