Cassy Martin set a school and meet record on Saturday in helping the Fort Recovery girls swim team place fourth in the Coldwater Cavalier Invitational at Jay County.

The Tribe girls scored 85 points, behind New Bremen (141), Coldwater (100) and Versailles (87).

Fort Recovery’s boys also finished fourth with 71 points. Versalles (145), Coldwater (99) and Minster (94) were first through third, respectively.

Martin, a senior, broke the meet and school record in the 100-yard backstroke with her time of 1 minute, 2.17 seconds. She was also first in the 50 freestyle in 24.98 seconds.

Ava Bubp claimed the top spot in the 200 freestyle with her time of 2:05.72.

The 200 medley relay team of Shelby Stammen, Autumn Burk, Rachel Acheson and Martin was the runner-up, as was Bubp in the 500 freestyle.

Josh Gonzalez had the only win for the FRHS boys with his career-best time of 57.22 seconds in the 100 freestyle. Owen Sheridan’s career-best time of 1:02.55 in the 100 butterfly was good enough for second. 

 

FR girls fall

COLDWATER, Ohio — Alli May’s 3-pointer with 21 seconds remaining stood as the game-winning basket Saturday as the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team fell to a 34-31 loss to the Coldwater Cavaliers at The Palace.

The setback dropped Fort Recovery to 6-9 on the season and 1-5 in Midwest Athletic Conference play, while Coldwater improved to 9-7 (3-3 MAC).

Fort Recovery had a 7-2 lead after the first quarter but saw the margin shrink to just two at halftime. The Tribe pulled even at 31 in the final minute before May’s game-winner.

Val Muhlenkamp finished with 13 points and eight rebounds to lead the Indians.

Coldwater’s Kate Leichty had a game-high 15 points.



Fort struggles

FORT LORAMIE, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys basketball team was held to a season-low point total in a 46-25 loss Saturday to the Fort Loramie Redskins.

Fort Recovery (8-7) was behind 12-5 after one quarter and went into halftime trailing by 13. 

Payton Jutte, who is in line to become the 17th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point scoring plateau, was 20 points shy entering Saturday’s contest. He was held to a season-low 11 points. His next opportunity is Friday against Marion Local.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also lost, 40-32. Ryne Post led the Indians with 11 points.

The Indian freshman team won 32-19. Caleb Evers paced the team with 11 points.



FRMS boys split

COLDWATER, Ohio — Fort Recovery Middle School’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams split with the Coldwater Cavaliers on Saturday.

The FRMS eighth graders got a 43-39 win, while the seventh grade squad fell 33-28.

Cale Rammel poured in 21 points to lead the Tribe eighth graders. Ross Pearson had nine points in support of Rammel.

For Fort Recovery’s seventh graders, Troy Homan led the way with 11 points. Reece Guggenbiller finished with eight points.
