RUSSIAVILLE — Kenzie Ring had four scores in the top six.
She helped the Patriots finish as the runners-up.
The Jay County High School gymnastics team was second on Saturday in the Western Invitational.
Northwestern totaled 95.075 points for first, and the Patriots had 93.425.
Ring, a sophomore, was third on uneven bars with an 8.375. She placed fourth on floor exercise (8.5) and sixth on vault (8.6). Ring was also fourth in the all-around competition.
Senior Karlie Bullard’s best performance came on floor as she was third with 8.875. Her 8.3 on beam was fifth and she scored 6.775 on bars for seventh.
Stars stumble
BERNE — A double-digit lead in the first quarter turned into a deficit at halftime and the South Adams boys basketball team couldn’t rally in a 74-56 loss to the Canterbury Cavaliers on Saturday at Stardome.
It marked the 10th straight loss for South Adams (1-14).
The Starfires were out front 12-2 after the first quarter but gave up 23 second-quarter points. Canterbury (4-9) pushed its lead to 48-35 heading into the final period.
South Adams sophomore Nick Miller led all players with 24 points on 9-of-18 shooting with six free throws. He also had a game-high 13 rebounds.
Spencer Fear (13 points) and Brayden Gilbert (10) also reached double figures.
Two make top 3
GREENWOOD — Two wrestlers finished in the top three Sunday for the Jay County Wrestling Club in the Middle School State Wrestling Championships at Center Grove.
Jay County totaled 70 points for a three-way tie for 15th with Lowell and New Palestine.
Reed Brandenburg was the runner-up in the 132-pound weight class for Jay County. In the 125-pound girls division, Mallory Winner was third.
Tony Wood (85 pounds) and Ethan Reiely (102) were sixth and seventh in their respective weight classes, and Dakota Chowning (girls – 110 pounds) was eighth.
