Nearly two dozen Portland residents made the Ball State University dean’s list for the spring semester.
In order to be named to the list, a student must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 for 12 or more credit hours.
Portland residents named to the dean’s list for the spring semester were Randi Auker, Alex Bader, Sophie Bader, Rose Franklin, Gwyneth Harris, Malarie Houck, Lexie Hudson, Chris Jackson, Jessica Kerrigan, Gabrielle Kunkler, Crystal Lee, Katie Lyons, Savanna Mace, J.D. Mangas, Lilly McClung, Alexis Myers, Robert Myers, Abigail Reier, Brooke Sanders, Bryan Stancliffe, Jordan Stultz and Anne Vormohr.
Also making the dean’s list were Dunkirk residents Mustafa Aly, Emily Back, Tanner Craw, Taylor Donathan, Nikki Evans and Breea Holdcroft.
Other area students making the dean’s list were Blaik Duran and Lyla Muhlenkamp of Bryant; Megan Johnson and Isabelle Minnich of Redkey; Karen Huey of Pennville; Victoria Outcalt, Luke Dotson, Michael Georgi, Elena North and Allison Smiley of Ridgeville; and Kenny Amstutz of Geneva.

A Prevented Planting Workshop is scheduled for July 12 at Gaston Lions Club Park.
The event, which runs from 8 a.m. to noon, will feature Ohio Agriculture’s May of the Year award winner David Brandt. He has 35 years of experience with cover crops.
Other speakers will discuss disease management, weed management and farm bill updates.

Seeking nominees
The Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame is seeking nominations for its 2019 class.
In order to be eligible, a veteran must have either been born in Indiana, entered military service in Indiana or lived in Indiana for a minimum of eight years. All branches of the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible.
Nomination packets are available at imvhof.com/nominate. The deadline is Aug. 1.
Drive scheduled
The American Red Cross will have a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. July 22 at Fort Recovery American Legion Hall, 2490 Ohio 49.
