Attend the 4-H auction on Friday
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
On behalf of the Jay County 4-H program, I would like to take this time to invite everyone to the annual Jay County 4-H livestock auction that starts at 10 a.m. Friday in the 4-H Exhibit Hall.
We have many 4-Hers that will be selling their livestock projects and would like to have lots of people there to bid.
I have heard recently that there is a misconception of where this money goes. The money goes to the 4-Her selling the animal with a small percentage of commission going to the 4-H Council for the overall maintenance and operation of the Jay County 4-H program.
The premiums that the kids receive help them to purchase their animals for next year, pay the costs associated with the care and showing of the animals for the year, put money away for college, start a nest egg for when they are finished with 4-H and learn to manage their finances.
There are many ways to participate in the auction. You can purchase an animal on your own, as a family, as a business or with a group of people. We also have a “Buyers Club” that allows someone to give money if they don’t have a specific 4-Her in mind to bid on and it is then distributed to 10-year 4-H members or added to others to boost their price.
All money given to 4-H can be tax deductible as we are a 501(c)(3) organization.
For more information, call the Purdue Cooperative Extension office at (260) 726-4707.
We also want to say a huge thank you to all previous buyers that support the Jay County 4-Hers and their program.
We hope to see you at the great Jay County Fair and at the 4-H auction.
Sincerely,
Beth Stephen
Jay County 4-H Council president
