FR hosting National Night Out
After a scorching few days, police will invite the community to the pool.
Fort Recovery Police Department will host its National Night Out event from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ambassador Pool.
The event will include free admission to the pool, a welcome opportunity with temperatures in the 90s this week. There will also be free games and free food.
The police department will also have vehicles on hand, along with a Southwest Mercer County Fire District fire truck and a Squad 3 ambulance.
Hosting program
A “Forages for the Future” program is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 25 at St. Henry High?School in St. Henry, Ohio.
The program will include discussions about best practices, alfalfa variety selection and establishment, weed control, harvesting and feeding considerations. Presenters include Maurice Eastridge of the Ohio State University department of animal sciences and Mark Sulc and Jeff Stachler of the OSU extension service.

On exhibit
The Blackford County Center of Arts Place will hold its SummerFest Juried Art Show from Saturday through Sept. 6. A reception is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. July 26, with awards at 6:30 p.m.
The facility will host its SummerFest Arts Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 27. The event will include arts and crafts vendors, music, art activities for children and food.

Fun with faeries
Minnetrista in Muncie will host “Faeries, Sprites & Lights” July 25 through 27. The event will include a variety of events, including faerie tea parties at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. July 27.

Holding drive
Dunkirk Police Department is collecting shoes for children in need.
Shoes can be donated now through Aug. 1 at the police department at 130 S. Main St., Dunkirk City Hall at 131 S. Main St. and CVS, 1130 S. Main St., Dunkirk. Sizes needed include girls’ sizes 12, 12.5, 1, 2, 3 and 5 and boys’ sizes 1, 1.5, 3 and 4.
The shoes will be donated to school children in the Dunkirk area in need of footwear.
