A half dozen cans will earn admission to the state fair.
Jay County Fair Board and Jay School Corporation are participating in the Indiana State Fair Farmer’s Care Program canned food drive.
Those who donate to the drive will receive one free state fair ticket per six non-perishable food items donated.
Tickets will be available from 7 to 11 a.m. and noon to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Jay Schools administrative offices, 1976 W. Tyson?Road, Portland. They are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
On the list
Local students were named to the Ohio State University dean’s list for the spring semester.
Named to the list were Audrey Shreve of Redkey and Brianna Froning, Caitlyn Huelskamp, Shannon Knoth, Carley Stone, Rose Vagedes and Lillian Vagedes of Fort Recovery.
Graduated
Rachel Pugh of Fort Recovery graduated in May from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and health.
Drive scheduled
The American Red Cross will have a blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. Monday at Fort Recovery American Legion Hall, 2490 Ohio 49.
Supplies available
Local students can receive a free backpack filled with school supplies from a Portland store this weekend.
TCC, 922 N. Meridian St., will be hosting the giveaway from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Children will receive a backpack full of various school supplies, including pencils, a pencil box, paper, folders and glue.
The event is part of TCC’s annual School Rocks Backpack Giveaway. The company has donated more than 950,000 backpacks since 2013.
Get out
Fort Recovery Police Department will host its National Night Out event from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ambassador Pool.
The event will include free admission to the pool, a welcome opportunity with temperatures in the 90s this week. There will also be free games and free food.
The police department will also have vehicles on hand, along with a Southwest Mercer County Fire District and a Squad 3 ambulance.
Fun with faeries
Minnetrista in Muncie will host “Faeries, Sprites & Lights” July 25 through 27. The event will include a variety of events, including faerie tea parties at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. July 27.
