Arts festival set for Saturday
Taking Note
Hartford City is celebrating the arts.
SummerFest Arts Festival, hosted by Tori’s Butterfly Garden Foundation, runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today on the downtown square in Hartford City.
The event will include a variety of art vendors offering items in mediums including glass, metal, wood, jewelry, mixed media, textiles and painting. There will also be free arts and crafts activities for children.
Osie’s Hill Band will play at 1 p.m., with Blooze Faktor to follow at 3 p.m.
The Blackford County Arts Center juried gallery exhibition will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Refreshments will also be available.

Reception scheduled
Cornerstone Center for the Arts will hold an opening reception for the exhibit “Lessons in Color: A White Girls’ Education” by artist Brenda Click. The reception in the Judith Barnes Memorial Gallery will run from to 5 to 7 p.m.

Night out
Limberlost State Historic Site Visitor Center in Geneva will host a Swift Night Out on Aug. 3. The cost is $1 for members of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites, and $2 for non-members.
The program in honor of the 100th anniversary of Gene Stratton-Porter’s book “Homing with the Birds” will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the visitor center classroom. Adrienne Provenzano will sing bird-themed songs.
Following the program, there will be a “Swift Sit” in downtown Geneva to watch the birds in flight.
Seeking nominees
The Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame is seeking nominations for its 2019 class.
In order to be eligible, a veteran must have either been born in Indiana, entered military service in Indiana or lived in Indiana for a minimum of eight years. All branches of the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible.
Nomination packets are available at imvhof.com/nominate. The deadline is Aug. 1.
