The library’s summer program will have a sweet start.
Jay County Public Library will kick off its Summer Challenge with an ice cream social from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday.
Those who register for the summer reading program will get free ice cream.
Participants in the challenge will work to fill out a BINGO card by reading books, attending programs and answering trivia questions. Those cards can then be turned in to enter raffle drawings.
They will also get to vote on the library’s “next new thing” from the following choices: a reading nook in the children’s area, Launch Pads for circulation or telescopes for circulation.
Summer Challenge officially begins June 10 and runs through July 20.
On the list
Several area students were recently named to the dean’s list at Indiana State University.
Portland residents named to the dean’s list are Alayna Aparicio, Emiley Bailey, Gregory Englehardt and Julie Schubert. Also making the list was Isabel Fromm of Geneva.
Carnival set
Jay County Retirement Center will host a carnival from 2 to 6 p.m. June 29.
The event will feature a dunk tank with Portland Mayor Randy Geesaman and Jay County Commissioner Mike Leonhard as targets to get soaked. Other attractions will include games, a bounce house, crafts, baked goods and a 50/50 drawing.
