Saturday is for singing.

Swiss Village will host the Swiss Village Singers in concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at the facility at 135 W. Main St. in Berne.

The group is made up of 47 Swiss Village residents under the direction of Mary Amstutz, a former elementary school music teacher for Adams Central Schools. Their show is titled “Tell Me the Story” and will feature hymns and gospel songs.

In addition to the full group, there will be a men’s quartet, women’s trio, piano soloist and instrumental group.

Gathering set

The National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture will hold its Gather of Great Lakes Nations from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Tri-State Antique Gas Engine and Tractor Association Grounds.

The event will feature Native American drums, singers and dancers, food, vendors, free children’s activities and demonstrations. There will be a hand drum and flute contest at noon Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday, and grand entries are scheduled for 1 and 6 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday.

Admission is $3 for those 12 and older, with a maximum of $12 per car. On-site camping is $10 per night.

Shows scheduled

Charles W. Brown Planetarium at Ball State University in Muncie will host free shows beginning Friday.

The “One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure” program will be held at 5:30 p.m. June 7, 21 and 28, and July 12. “Dawn of the Space Age” will be featured at 6:30 p.m. on the same dates.

The programs “Astronaut” and “Moons: Worlds of Mystery” will be held at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m., respectively, on July 26, and Aug. 2 and 9.



Registration open

Registration is now open for the Arts Place’s annual summer arts program, which will offer classes beginning Monday.

The program for children ages 6 through 12 offers classes in dance, theatre and art. Classes are offered in Portland, Dunkirk, Pennville, Montpelier, Berne, Hartford City, Fort Recovery and other locations in Mercer County.

Meeting planned

Jay County Civic Theatre will hold its annual meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at West Walnut Street Church of Christ in Portland.

The meeting will include the election of two board members, voting on bylaw changes and appointment of the show selection committee. All Jay County Civic Theatre members — anyone who has contributed their time or funds to a show in the last three years — are eligible to vote.

Following the brief meeting, there will be a carry-in meal. That will be followed by karaoke, improv and games.
