Genealogy event set for Saturday
A Muncie library will offer an opportunity to learn about genealogy.
A Genealogy Information Fair is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Carnegie Library, 301 E. Jackson St., Muncie.
Karen Good will present a Genealogy 101 workshop at 1:30 p.m. She is in charge of Ancestor Hunters of Delaware County.
About 20 organizations will be on hand to provide information about family history research. The event is being hosted by Muncie Public Library, Delaware County Historical Society and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Elected
Jay County Civic Theatre’s membership elected Ray Cooney and Lee Osteen to three-year terms on its board of directors Monday.
Both Cooney and Osteen were already serving on the board, filling out the remainder of resigned terms. Their new terms will expire in 2022.
Other board members are J.B. Goodrich, Pete Vogler, Greg Rittenhouse, Bev Wolford, Jason McGraw and Casi Avery.
Officers will be elected at JCCT’s regular July board meeting.
Also approved Monday were changes to the bylaws, including a requirement of at least 15 days notice for a membership meeting. The previous bylaws required only five days notice.
The board also accepted volunteers for its show selection committee, which is tasked with making recommendations for the next three years.
Story time set
Fort Recovery Public Library will host a story time and craft session at 10:30 a.m. Friday. The event is open to children from infants through elementary school and is part of the library’s summer reading program.

To speak
John Jay Center for Learning’s spring speaker series features a four-part seminar from Mike Medler about the use of forensic science in criminal investigation, the last of which is set for Tuesday. The former director of the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Service Agency will speak about hair/fiber analysis at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Carnival set
Jay County Retirement Center will host a carnival from 2 to 6 p.m. June 29.
The event will feature a dunk tank with Portland Mayor Randy Geesaman and Jay County Commissioner Mike Leonhard as targets to get soaked.
Other attractions will include games, a bounce house, crafts, baked goods and a 50/50 drawing.
Shows scheduled
Charles W. Brown Planetarium at Ball State University in Muncie will host free shows this summer.
The “One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure” program will be held at 5:30 p.m. June 21 and 28, and July 12. “Dawn of the Space Age” will be featured at 6:30 p.m. on the same dates.
The programs “Astronaut” and “Moons: Worlds of Mystery” will be held at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m., respectively, on July 26, and Aug. 2 and 9.
