Nancy Broering

Sept. 23, 1943-June 22, 2019

Nancy L. Broering, age 75, of St. Henry, Ohio, died on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima, Ohio.

She was born on Sept. 23, 1943, in Egypt, Ohio, to the late Urban and Rita (Liening) Schmiesing. On Oct. 26, 1963, in St. Joseph Church, Egypt, she married Paul Broering, and he survives in St. Henry.

Nancy is also survived by nine children: Jim and Jan Broering, St. Henry, Lisa and Kenny Francisco, Marysville, Linda and Ben Schmitmeyer, Portland, Indiana, Diane and Dave Hoying, Minster, Sheila and Paul Balster, Hilliard, Kevin Broering, St. Henry, Brian and Jill Broering, Troy, Amy and David Gengo, Gahanna, and Todd and Molly Broering, St. Henry. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; siblings Marilyn and Leonard Holdheide, Pat and Vernon Grieshop, Ronald Schmiesing and Henry Schmiesing; as well as in-laws Mary and Louie Grieshop, Elmer and Barb Broering, Luke and Barb Broering, Donald and Janice Broering, Robert and Betty Broering, Jean and Orville Borgert, Walter and Shirley Broering, and Dennis and Sharon Ontrop.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by in-laws Irene and George Speelman, Esther Ontrop and Vernon Gehret. 

She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella.

Nancy was a graduate of Minster High School and went on to work at Minster Machine.

Together with Paul, they raised a large family, lovingly supporting her children in all their activities and ventures in life. She was a homemaker who enjoyed baking and cooking, sewing and crocheting, as well as gardening. Nancy and Paul loved to travel and to spend their winters in Florida. She also loved playing cards, watching the Cincinnati Reds and attending many of their grandchildren’s activities. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2019, at St. Henry Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Henry Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, and 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home in St. Henry.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to The Center for Neurological Development in Burkettsville, the Cancer Association of Mercer County or The Shrine of the Holy Relics, Maria Stein.
