In contested matches the Chiefs narrowly edged the Starfires.

Forfeits helped them over the top.

East Jay Middle School’s wrestling team had a two-point advantage in contested matches but got 54 points from forfeits as it remained undefeated in Allen County Athletic Conference action on Tuesday with a 72-16 victory over South Adams.

The Chiefs improved to 11-3 on the year and 6-0 against conference opponents, and can secure the championship with a victory Thursday at Bluffton.

After three consecutive forfeits to begin the match, Tony Wood, a 90-pounder, picked up the first win for East Jay by pinning Colton Bollenbacher in 32 seconds.

Silas Loshe of South Adams then defeated Cody Rowles by a 6-1 decision at 95 pounds, and Ethan Reiley pinned Landon Blowers at 102.

The Starfires’ Maverick Summersett earned a 10-1 major decision over Carter Link at 110 pounds to bring the overall team score to 24-13 Chiefs. But back-to-back forfeits for East Jay put the match well out of reach.
