Alberta Beeks

Alberta J. Beeks, age 91, of Fort Wayne, and former Jay County resident, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019, in Grey Stone Health and Rehabilitation in Fort Wayne.

She was born in Portland on June 1, 1927, the daughter of Ray and Ina (Leonhard) Freemyer. She was married April 20, 1947, to Robert H. Beeks and he died July 16, 1997.

Alberta was a manager for Montgomery Ward and worked at Fort Recovery Equity for 24 years. She was a 1945 Portland High School graduate and a member of Noble Township Busy Bee Home Ec., Salamonia VFW Aux. 2840, Salamonia United Church of Christ, West Walnut Street Church of Christ and Eastern Star.

Surviving are two daughters, Ginger Ouwenga (husband: Robert) of Findlay, Ohio, and Ina Kay McAbee (husband: Bill) of Fort Wayne; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Lyons.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 29, 2019, at 4 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Green presiding. Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. Burial will be in the Salamonia Cemetery at a later date.
