FORT RECOVERY — The Indians had Brenna Homan standing at third base with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning.
She didn’t get to travel the remaining 60 feet.
The Fort Recovery High School softball team left the potential game-tying run at third base as it wasn’t able to pull even with the Ansonia Tigers in a 4-3 loss in extra innings on Monday.
Fort Recovery (2-1), which swept the Jefferson Wildcats on Saturday, fell behind 2-1 in the second inning but nabbed a 3-2 lead in the fourth. The Tigers pulled even in the fifth inning before going ahead 4-3 in the top of the eighth inning.
Homan, a sophomore, hit a one-out single in the home half of the eighth and reached third on back-to-back stolen bases.
A fly out to center field and a strikeout ended the Tribe’s threat to tie the game.
Chloey Grisez and Homan had two hits for the Indians, with Grisez hitting her first career triple. Jackie Homan, Hannah Knapke, Macy Day and Aleigha Jenkins each had singles.
Jackie Homan took the loss pitching. She scattered one hit over eight innings, gave up four runs — all unearned — and struck out 10 while walking two.
