Nick Laux and Grant Wendel did it all on Tuesday, leading Inman U-Loc to an 8-4 win over Portland Optimist in Willie Mays action of Portland Junior League.
Laux tripled, knocked in a run and scored twice, while Wendel hit a double, drove in a run and scored three times. Pitching, they combined to strike out 13, including eight by Wendel.
Gavin Byrum (two singles, three runs), Freddie Lingo (single) and Denton Hanlin (single) also contributed to the win.
Dominick Bright walked three times and scored twice in the loss for Optimist. Shawn Harrell, Jayden Harrell and Xavien Maxwell all singled. Bright also struck out eight on the mound.
PG-14 squeaks by
PG-14 opened its Willie Mays season on Tuesday, squeaking by with a 3-2 win against Lions Club.
Leighton Brown and Nick Snow both had doubles in the win for PG-14, and Maddox Huffman contributed a triple.
Wes Wenning notched a double for Lions Club, while Kevin Dues collected a single.
Huffman notched nine strikeouts in three innings pitching while allowing one walk.
Eli Stockton and Aryan Montes pitched for Lions Club.
