Jay County High School’s Academic Team closed out its season recently at the Academic Senior Super Bowl Area Contest in Richmond with the English, fine arts and social studies teams each taking first place.
Despite winning the area contests, none of the teams attained the top-five score out of 58 teams statewide needed to advance to the state finals.
Caitlynn Miller, Catherine Stafford, Ava Stockton and Hannah Troyer teamed to win the area contest in English. They came the closest to attaining a state berth, placing 12th among Indiana’s participating teams.
The area champion fine arts team was made up of Ethan Andreshak, Mary Hartman and Liz Stewart. Jackson Lyons, Dillon Muhlenkamp and Catherine Stafford teamed for the social studies win.
The science (Ethan Andreshak, Isaac Braun, Lucas Lyons, Leanna Miller, Dillon Muhlenkamp and Kaleb Weaver), math (Isaac Braun, Jackson Lyons, Isaka Dalei and Kaleb Weaver) and interdisciplinary (Ethan Andreshak, Isaac Braun, Dillon Muhlenkamp, Catherine Stafford, Liz Stewart and Kaleb Weaver) teams all finished second at the area contest.
Fair is Friday
Jay County’s Community Innovation Fair will be held from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Jay County High School, with awards to follow at 1:45 p.m.
Jay County High School students will showcase their inventions in the JCHS?commons. The event is open to the public.
Time to fly
Hoosier Kitefliers Society will host the Ansel Toney Memorial Kite Festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Academy of Model Aeronautics, 5161 E. Memorial Drive, Muncie.
The free kite-flying event is open to all ages. There will also be a kite-making workshop for children.

Celebration set
Cornerstone Center for the Arts in Muncie will conclude the current class session with its Spring Celebration Sunday.
The event will begin at 2 p.m. in E.B. Ball Auditorium. The student art gallery will be open from 2 to 5:30 p.m., and there will be improvisational belly dancing and martial arts class demonstrations at 3:30 p.m.
