HAGERSTOWN — The Patriots had already upset the top-ranked Tigers.
They were on their way to another win but rain rolled in.
Jay County High School’s baseball team got a 5-3 win over previously unbeaten Hagerstown in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday and was leading 4-2 in the second before the game was called because of weather.
The Patriots (10-2) broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the third inning of game one against the Class 2A No. 1 Tigers on a Cameron Henry RBI single that scored Gabe Faulkner. They extended the margin to 4-2 in the top of the fourth on a Daniel Fugiett RBI single before the Tigers got one run back in the home half of the inning. A Michael Schlechty solo home run in the top of the seventh added an insurance run.
Faulkner had three singles for JCHS, which also got a pair of singles and RBIs from Fugiett. Wyatt Geesaman and Isaac Moeller both doubled.
Geesaman earned the win. He allowed two earned runs on two hits over four innings. He struck out eight and walked five.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning of the second game, Jay County scored once in the second and three times in the third for the 4-2 advantage. Schlechty had two home runs — the first multi-homer game of his career — and had four RBIs.
