ANSONIA, Ohio — The Indians’ season high for runs in a game was 17.

They nearly equaled that total in the seventh inning Monday.

Fort Recovery High School’s baseball team broke a 5-5 tie by scoring 16 runs in the seventh inning in a 21-5 thrashing of the host Ansonia Tigers.

The Indians (11-8) were ahead 3-0 heading to the bottom of the third before the Tigers grabbed a one-run lead. Fort Recovery evened the score in the fourth inning, and both teams scored in the fifth ahead of the big offensive output for the Tribe.

Joe Homan broke the tie with a two-run single, and Kody Shinabery followed with an RBI double. Cobe Wendel knocked in a pair on a single, while Regan Martin, Ian Homan, Garrett Faller, Ryne Post, Joe Homan, Shinabery and Wendel later had RBIs in the same frame.

Shinabery finished with four RBIs on three hits, and Joe Homan had three hits as well. Ian Homan, Wendel and Post all had multi-hit games.

Post got the win, as he threw 1 2/3 perfect innings of relief with a pair of strikeouts.

Tribe tops Cavs

COLDWATER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery softball team picked up its second win over the Coldwater Cavaliers in the span of 18 days Monday with a 7-2 victory.

Trailing 2-0, the Indians (13-10) scored three runs in the top of the fifth to take a lead it never relinquished as they topped their Midwest Athletic Conference rival in a non-conference matchup. Jackie Homan put FRHS on the board with a two-run single, and Hannah Knapke followed with a solo home run after Homan’s courtesy runner was caught stealing. It was Knapke’s third homer of the year.

Lydia Wenning ripped an RBI single and Chloey Grisez hit a bases-clearing double in the seventh inning as the Tribe tacked on four insurance runs.

Brenna Homan doubled and singled twice, while Jackie Homan, Knapke and Wenning all finished with two hits.

Jackie Homan allowed two runs — one earned — on four hits and struck out five over seven innings for the win.

FR falls to Cards

NEW BREMEN, Ohio — The Fort Recovery junior varsity baseball team couldn’t keep the New Bremen Cardinals from scoring on Monday in a 5-2 loss.

A run in the second inning by the Indians (5-8), tied the score at 1-1, but the Cardinals responded with one run in each of the third, fourth and fifth frames. Fort Recovery trimmed the margin to 4-2 after the top of the sixth before New Bremen got that run in the home half of the inning.

Kendrick Wendel and Dillan Evers had the only two hits for the Tribe. Wendel hit a double, while Evers singled. Marcus Gaerke and Korbin Dues were credited with RBIs.

Evers took the loss, allowing two runs — one earned — on two hits in three innings. He struck out two and walked six.
