FORT RECOVERY — The Indians struggled to keep the Redskins off the base paths.
Their bats had difficulty as well.
Fort Recovery High School’s baseball team gave up five extra-base hits and struggled to string together consistent offense Wednesday in a 12-2 loss to St. Henry in six innings.
St. Henry (17-4, 8-1 Midwest Athletic Conference), which is ranked sixth in Division IV, led 3-0 after the second inning before the Indians (10-11, 4-5 MAC) cut the deficit to one.
Garrett Faller got hit by a pitch and Regan Martin drew a walk, then Ryne Post hit a two-run double to right field.
St. Henry, which had five doubles, responded with four runs in the top of the fourth inning, and five more in the top of the sixth to pull away.
Post added a single, while Ian Homan, Kody Shinabery and Cobe Wendel also had hits.
Riley Post took the loss, allowing six runs — one earned — on four hits in 3 2/3 innings. He walked four and struck out a pair.
Stars win big
MARION — The South Adams junior varsity softball team won a shootout on Wednesday with the Marion Giants, 21-9, in five innings.
The Starfires (7-6) led just 6-4 at the end of the first inning before breaking the game open with a seven-run second frame. They were out front 13-5 at the end of the third and 16-7 after four innings.
Jayla Conner and MaKayla Hamrick each doubled for South Adams. Hirschy finished with two hits and three RBIs, and Conner collected four RBIs. Haley Armstrong knocked in three runs, and Kaelynn Miller had two RBIs. Vivian O’Dell had two singles.
FR falls late
ST. HENRY, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s junior varsity baseball team gave up three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday in a 5-4 loss to the St. Henry Redskins.
Fort Recovery (5-9, 1-6 Midwest Athletic Conference) led 3-1 after the second inning and held the same margin after both teams scored a run in the sixth.
But the Redskins got the walk-off victory in its last turn to bat.
Kendrick Wendel had two singles for the Indians, who got a double and two walks from Korbin Dues. Derek Lochtefeld, Brock Dues, Marcus Gaerke, Sam Jones and Cole Muhlenkamp all singled.
