Jay offense hot in rout

Jay County roundup

Noah Arbuckle provided the spark yet again.

This time, the offense kept producing.

Arbuckle’s three-run homer in the first inning Thursday started a rout for the Jay County High School baseball team in a 16-0 thumping of the Heritage Patriots in five innings at Don E. Selvey Field.

It was his second round-tripper in as many games and his fourth of the season, putting him in a tie for the team lead with Michael Schlechty.

Jay County moved to 13-2 on the year and 3-0 in Allen County Athletic Conference play. The two teams meet again in the sectional semifinal May 24 at Bellmont.

The host Patriots built on their lead with four runs in the second inning, and broke it open with six runs in the third. For good measure, they added one more in the fourth frame.

Wyatt Geesaman and Schlechty both legged out triples, as Schlechty finished with three hits and three RBIs. Geesaman also singled and drove in a pair. Ryan Schlechty doubled.

Arbuckle struck out four, walked one and scattered two hits over four innings for the win.

Patriots second

In their best round of the season, the Jay County boys golf team finished second on Thursday in a match against South Adams and Bluffton at Portland Golf Club.

Bluffton took first with a score of 192, and Jay County shot a season-low 203 for second. South Adams totaled 243.

Kyle Sanders led the way for the Patriots with a 49, and Devin Harris was second with 50. Seth Wilson finished one stroke behind at 51, and Griffin Mann rounded out the team score with 53.

Jay County’s Joey Hall (60) and South Adams’ Alec Neuenschwander (69) also competed but they did not factor into the team total.

Lead gets away

Jay County’s softball team had its three-run lead slip away in the sixth inning Thursday in a 14-8 loss to the Heritage Patriots.

Jay County got out front with w a run in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth, but Heritage fired back to take an 11-8 lead by scoring six runs in the sixth inning.

Heritage added three more runs in the seventh and Jay County wasn’t able to respond.

Hannah Phillips, Aubrie Schwieterman, Randi Ferguson and Sam Twigg all had hits for JCHS.

Jay JV wins

The visiting Patriots (5-6-1) scored twice in the first inning but had the lead cut in half during the home half of the second. Jay County pushed the lead to 4-1 with a pair of runs in the third inning and added two more in the third to make it 6-1.

Heritage plated a run in each of the fifth and sixth frames but wasn’t able to catch up.
