Family committed to giving hope

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

Early this year, my 1-and-a-half-year-old great-granddaughter Kamryn Price became the victim of a tragic child abuse incident that left her brain dead.

It broke the hearts of our entire family that such a vibrant and lovely child could be so senselessly taken from us.

During her eight-day stay in the hospital, the family prayed that the inevitable we feared would somehow change.

The entire hospital staff treated us with love and compassion as they struggled to save Kamryn’s life. But all too soon it became apparent that only the life support systems were keeping our baby alive.

Kamryn donated several of her organs to others. Our baby gave the gift of life to others.

At Kamryn’s memorial, the family asked those attending to honor her memory by donating toys and stuffed animals for other children. The outpouring was overwhelming. And after the weekend, the toys were taken to Lutheran Children’s Hospital to be given to other children suffering from the effects of child abuse.

Now the family has set up a fund under Kamryn Kares on Facebook to collect funds and donations to continue to provide stuffed animals for children who have suffered the effects of abuse. You can help us continue to give hope in the midst of tragedy by purchasing a Kamryn Kares wristband or donating to Kamryn Kares as we keep her memory alive by bringing comfort to children who have experienced the horror of violence at the hands of an adult.

Please consider joining us by visiting Kamryn Kares on Facebook or contacting me.

Thank you.
