SPENCERVILLE, Ohio — Jared Timmerman locked up the long jump championship for the Fort Recovery boys track team Thursday in the first day of the Division III district meet at Spencerville.

His 10 points put Fort Recovery in eighth place out of 12 teams. Marion Local, Minster and Lincolnview all have 24 points for a three-way tie for the lead.

Fort Recovery’s girls also have 10 points, and they are fifth. New Knoxville is in the lead with 19 points as the meet resumes Saturday.

Timmerman had a leap of 20 feet, 7 inches, during the finals. He was seeded fourth after preliminaries.

Fort Recovery’s girls 4x800 relay team of Kierra Wendel, Cassy Martin, Ava Bubp and Chloe Will took second and advanced to regional. The top four in each event qualify for regional.

Robby LeFevre and Riley Pearson reached the district final in the 110-meter hurdles, while Timmerman and LeFevre will compete in the 100 dash final.

The FRHS boys have the top seed in the 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay. The Tribe girls are seeded first in the 4x400, and both squads had their 4x200 relay team make the district final.

Also making the finals individually are Drew Muhlenkamp (400 dash and 800 run), Owen Moorman (400 dash), Martin (400 dash), Wendel (800 run) and LeFevre (200 dash).

Augsburger leads SA to title

PONETO — A bases-clearing triple in the third inning.

An RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth.

A three-run bomb in the seventh.

All in a day’s work for Taylor Augsburger.

Augsburger was 2-for-3 and racked up seven RBIs on Thursday, leading the South Adams High School softball team to a 9-0 victory against the host Southern Wells Raiders.

The shutout clinched the fourth straight Allen County Athletic Conference championship for the Class 2A No. 4 Starfires (20-3, 6-0 Allen County Athletic Conference), who have also won 20 or more games each of the last four seasons.

Savannah Alberson doubled and singled in support of Augsburger. Kayla LeFever recorded two hits, while Anna Nussbaum, Mallory Hirschy and Aaliyah Feaster each singled.

Jay stumbles to Tigers

Jay County’s softball team stumbled in a 10-6 loss to the Bluffton Tigers on Thursday.

The Patriots (9-10, 1-5 Allen County Athletic Conference) got a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning but fell behind 5-1 at the end of the second. They got within striking distance, 6-4, after the third, and the margin stayed the same as both teams scored twice in the fourth.

But a pair of insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning for the Tigers proved too much to overcome for the Patriots.

Jay County’s Maggie Pryor was 3-for-3 in the defeat. Kensey Litton, Aubrie Schwieterman, Kailee Denney, Shelby Caldwell and Olivia Bright had one hit each.
