Kayla LeFever had five singles, and Mallory Hirschy doubled twice and hit two singles. Kristen Wynn doubled and singled twice, while Jade Baker hit a home run to go with her two singles and four RBIs.

Baker allowed six runs — four earned — on seven hits to get the win in the first game. Anna Nussbaum allowed three runs, only one earned, on eight hits in game two. She struck out six and walked one.

South Adams, which also beat Snider 8-6 Friday, closed its season with four straight wins. The Starfires open sectional play Wednesday in the semifinal against Canterbury at Churubusco.

Stars drop two

BERNE — The South Adams baseball team lost back-to-back games for the first time this season Saturday as it was swept in a doubleheader by the Northeastern Knights.

The Starfires (17-6), who are seventh in the final IHSBCA Class 2A poll, trailed 6-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, rallied for three runs but lost 6-4.

In game two, South Adams was leading 3-0 after the third inning before the Knights did all their damage in the top of the sixth for a 5-3 win.

Grant Besser tripled and doubled for the Starfires. AJ Dull doubled, singled and knocked in a pair of runs. Spenser Clark had two RBIs as well.

Besser allowed one earned run on two hits, struck out 13 and walked three in 5 2/3 innings of game two but did not factor into the decision.
