Store experience was lacking in tact
To the editor:
As a former supermarket manager of several stores who routinely made bank deposits of thousands of dollars and attended many seminars on how to spot shoplifters, I felt humiliated with a recent experience at the local Walmart.
As I headed toward the exit with a small purchase, a “security employee” barked “Sir, I need to see a receipt.”
Back in the day, I always told my employees never to embarrass a shopper. Evidently, times have changed.
I certainly hope that in the near future Portland can land a respectable supermarket and a retail shop that sells quality products and treats people right as an alternative to a glorified dollar store such as Walmart. The result for me and my son would be less trips driving out of town.
The aforementioned is not to be confused with being above the law or being better than anyone else. My intended message is dignity.
