Attendance records should be publicized
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
I am writing to thank Mr. Jim Sanders, for his letter of Saturday, May 17, 2019, headlined “Council members have let us down,” for educating the city/community, of what is our reality. The problem with his letter is that it wasn’t written prior to the primaries, as some may have wanted this information prior to their voting.
The attendance records of all incumbents should be published prior to the sign-up period, primary early voting and election early voting. They should all be asked their reasons, if that is appropriate, when The Commercial Review interviews them, so the voters can determine whether they are doing their job, as council member, before they vote for their seat.
This may explain why nothing is being done for the sale of the former Sheller-Globe/Bailey building, located at 510 S. Bridge St., finding a grocery store to compete with the local Walmart to better serve the local area, as well as, possibly stifling the continuous loss of the population of Portland, as well as the entire county. There is the probability that people who have the time, or are willing to sacrifice their time, for the benefit of the city/the community, might be better served.
Thank you again, Mr. Sanders, for having brought this to the attention of the voters. I commend you for your courageously bold move.
Sincerely,
Daniel E. Chase
