Charles Anderson

Charles G. Anderson Jr., age 76, of rural Portland passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2019, in Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

He was born in Delaware County on Feb. 26, 1943, the son of Charles and Esther Mae (Bousman) Anderson Sr. He was married July 15, 1961, to Darlene Kile, who survives.

He was retired from Teledyne Portland Forge.

He served on the Jay County Hospital Board for 24 years and was Portland Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2002. He was past president and secretary/treasurer of Local 1620. He served on the Jay County Sheriff’s Office Reserves, and was a member of the Portland Moose and NRA.

He was a 1961 graduate of Gov. IP Gray High School.

Surviving are his wife Darlene; one son, Jeff Anderson (wife: Felisha) of Decatur; one brother, Steve Anderson (wife: Cathy) of Delaware County; and two grandsons, Adam Anderson and Parker Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Dale Anderson.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Dave McClellan presiding. Burial will be in the Little Salamonia Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. Memorials can be made to Jay County Cancer Society.
