COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. — All it took was a walk.
Michael Curry walked with the bases loaded in the third inning for the lone run Thursday as the Fort Wayne TinCaps closed its road trip with a 1-0 win against the West Michigan Whitecaps at Fifth Third Field.
It was the third win in four games for the?TinCaps (26-26) against the Whitecaps (19-35), a Detroit Tigers affiliate. The victory also secured a 5-3 mark on its Michigan road trip before returning to Parkview Field tonight for a six-game homestand.
Kelvin Melean and Xavier Edwards began the top of the third inning with back-to-back singles, and Grant?Little walked to load the bases.
Melean trotted home on the walk to Curry, who battled back after falling behind 0-2 to 6-foot, 10-inch Whitecap starter Hugh Smith.
Blake Hunt paced the TinCap offense with a double and a single, and Justin?Lopez hit his second triple of the season.
Juan Fernandez also had a hit for Fort Wayne.
Sam Keating evened his record to 2-2 by tossing five scoreless innings for the TinCaps. He scattered three hits, struck out six and walked one.
Cody Tyler and Henry Henry combined to strike out six and allow just one hit and one walk over four innings of relief.
