LifeStream offers info, assistance
Taking Note
LifeStream Services is providing free Medicare consultations with trained State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) counselors during the Medicare open enrollment period.
The State Health Insurance Assistance Program provides free, impartial health insurance information for people with Medicare. SHIP can help answer questions regarding Medicare, Medicare Supplement Insurance, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, long-term care insurance, prescription coverage, and low-income assistance.
One-on-one appointments can be scheduled through Dec. 7 by calling LifeStream at 800-589-1121. Those who are unable to travel, or prefer not to, can speak with a SHIP counselor on the phone who can assess their current coverage and make other recommendations.
Upstart time
Indiana families can pre-register their four-year-olds for UPSTART, a free online kindergarten-readiness program for low-income families, now through Friday, Nov. 15, according to a press release from State Sen. Travis Holdman (R-Markle).
The Indiana General Assembly helped make UPSTART available in Indiana during the 2017 legislative session by passing House Enrolled Act 1004. That act authorized funds for a technology-based, in-home early education program.
Through UPSTART, children are taught early reading, math and science through instructional hours, lessons, activities, books and animated songs.
Participants follow their own personalized learning path, but must use the program at least 30 minutes a day, five days a week the year before entering kindergarten.
Fun night set
Jay Community Center’s Family Fun Night is set for Friday, Nov. 15, beginning at 6 p.m.
Mark’s Ark will be on hand with a live animal demonstration. There will also be pizza, balloon animals and face painting.
Those attending are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the food bank.
Family Fun Night is sponsored by the Portland Rotary Club, Portland Optimists, the Portland Lions Club, Delta Theta Tau sorority, Cincinnatus League and CrossRoads Financial Federal Credit Union.
Meeting scheduled
Jay County Historical Society will hold its annual dinner meeting at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at Asbury United Methodist Church. The cost of the meal is $10, and reservations are required by 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The program will be “Video Moments from Jay County’s Past” with Rob Weaver sharing a variety of segments he has recorded during his years reporting on events for WPGW Radio.
The dinner meeting will also include the election of five members of the board of directors.
Board members whose terms are expiring are Jeff Bowen, Claudia Jones, Carter Leonard, Jodi McKee and Judy Zearbaugh.
