Jeane Cassel, age 93, a former rural Portland resident, passed away Tuesday evening, Nov. 19, 2019, at Crown Pointe in Portland surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Jay County on April 19, 1926, the daughter of Elmer and Opal (Stullen) Bisel. She was married on April 23, 1944, to Jay Cassel, and he preceded her in death on March 15, 1986.
She had worked for Marsh Supermarket for over 50 years. She and her husband Jay were founding members of the Jay County Horse and Pony Club and she was active in many other clubs and organizations as well. She with her husband also operated a dairy farm.
Surviving are her children Rodney Cassel (wife: Cuba) of Portland, Charlene Isenhart (husband: James) of Portland, Christina Billington (husband: Terry) of Portland and Stanley Cassel (wife: Diana) of Florida; one sister, Ruth Ellen Shockney of Farmland; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her special dog Luna who was her loyal companion for nine years.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Woods; and a grandson, Paul Cassel.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the Baird-Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Hines presiding. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery in Pennville. Visitation will be Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. Memorials can be made to the State of the Heart Hospice.
