Judith Smitley

Judith J. Smitley, age 78, a resident of Portland, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2019, at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

She was a member of the New Covenant Fellowship Church in Collett. She was a homemaker, served as a secretary for the guidance counselor at West Jay Middle School and babysat at home for many years.

Judith Smitley was born July 27, 1941, in Jay County, Indiana, the daughter of Cecil and Iris (Labig) Bye. She was married to Ralph Thomas Grayson for 17 years.

Survivors include:

Three daughters — Cinda Johnson, Overton, Nevada, Christina Grayson, Portland, Indiana, and Carmen Grayson, Portland, Indiana

One son — Kevin Grayson (wife: Rhonda), Geneva, Indiana

Twelve Grandchildren and six great-grandchildren

One brother — Merritt Bye (wife: Dorothy), Portland, Indiana

Two sisters — Lois June Woodard, Albany, Indiana, and Marilyn Sue Cummings, Portland, Indiana

Two stepsons — Duane Smitley, Portland, and Joel Smitley, Portland, Indiana

One stepdaughter — Martha Walker (husband: Dave), Portland, Indiana

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at New Covenant Fellowship Church, 1238 W. 450 S. Portland, Indiana. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. at the church. Pastor Herb Hummel and Chuck Myers will officiate the service. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to Feed The Children.
