DUNKIRK — A Chief runner crossed the line first in both races.

Their respective teams were first as well.

East Jay Middle School’s cross country teams swept a meet with Winchester Driver and host West Jay on Tuesday.

East Jay’s boys claimed the first four places in scoring 18 points to grab the victory. West Jay was the runner-up with 51 points and Driver totaled 56 points for third.

The Chief girls scored 21 points for the victory, and Driver was second with 49 points. West Jay was one runner short of qualifying for a team score.

Cameron Clark was the top EJMS boy as he crossed the line in 11 minutes, 56 seconds. Creed Beiswanger, Gabe Pinkerton and Carson Davis were second through fourth respectively. Timo Minnich was eighth.

Jackson Edwards was the first West Jay boy to cross the line as he placed fifth. Liam Garringer finished seventh, Trevin Dunning was ninth, Lukes Powers took 14th and Landon Grayson ended 16th.

Ayla Grabner of East Jay was the winner of the girls’ race in 13:26, seven spots ahead  of teammate Alexis Sibray. Emily Manor was fifth, Paityn Wendel finished sixth and Mallory Winner took seventh.

Makinsey Murphy led West Jay by placing third. Hailey Ayala finished eighth, Lucie Raines ended 11th and Sarah McClain was 21st.



Chiefs beat Raiders

PONETO — East Jay’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams both defeated the host Southern Wells Raiders on Tuesday.

The eighth graders won 25-9, 25-12, and the seventh graders won 25-24, 25-20.

Riah Champ had nine kills to lead the EJMS eighth graders (10-4). Sophie Saxman was second with four kills while Bella Denton and Danielle May had two apiece. Maggie Dillon had 10 points, and Saxman finished with five aces.

Cassie Petro led the seventh graders (6-8) with three kills, and Meredith Dirksen recorded seven aces. Courtney Harris, Jaelynn Lykins, Maya Eason and Addison Denney had one kill each.



Tribe spikers lose

FORT RECOVERY — The seventh and eighth grade Fort Recovery volleyball teams both fell to the St. Henry Redskins on Tuesday.

The eighth graders suffered a 25-19, 26-24 defeat while the seventh graders fell 25-23, 19-25, 25-11.

Chloe Bubp and Natalie Brunswick each had three aces in the eighth grade contest, an Teigen Fortkamp contributed three kills.

Kennedy Muhlenkamp led the seventh graders with five kills, as Ella Schoen recorded four kills and Kayla Heitkamp notched three kills and three aces. 



Chiefs fall to Tigers

East Jay’s sixth grade volleyball A team fell to the Yorktown Tigers on Tuesday, 25-11, 25-9.

Kayla Jetmore had three points and a kill for the Chiefs, and Kendel Rowles chipped in two points. Mya Kunkler added one kill while Maria Hemmelgarn and Cami Barnett had one point each.
