It’s a festive time in Jay County.
On the heels of last week’s Heritage Festival and ahead of Redkey’s festival next weekend, Jay County High School’s chapter of the National Honor Society will hold its fall festival from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
The event, which will be held in the school commons, will feature hayrides, cookie decorating, games, costume and coloring contests and a photo booth. Caramel apples will also be available.
The entry fee will be $5. A chili dinner will also be available for $5.
Drive set
A blood drive in honor of former Portland Fire Chief Matt Aker is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Portland Fire Department.
Aker died in a motorcycle accident in April 2011. He was fire chief at the time of his death, and had also been involved in the community as a reserve deputy for Jay County Sheriff’s Office, a member of Portland Rotary and Portland Morning Optimist clubs and a supporter of United Way of Jay County.

The annual attraction has been transformed with a new floorplan and features. It was designed by Brian Blair of Scarevania, Pumpkin Pulp Productions, and Freakhouse Flicks.
The haunted house will be open from 8 p.m. to midnight Oct. 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 25 and 26. Tickets are $12.
