ANSONIA, Ohio — The Tribe put an end to a losing streak and got back in the win column.
Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team dominated its way past the Ansonia Tigers on Monday, 25-8, 25-11, 25-8.
The victory ended a three-game losing streak for the Division IV No. 6 Indians (16-4), who had lost to No. 11 Marion Local on Sept. 26, No. 4 Fort Loramie two days later and top-ranked St. Henry on Thursday.
Paige Fortkamp led the Indians with 11 kills, and Grace Guggenbiller was second with four kills. Whitley Rammel, Lilie Leuthold, Marissa Gaerke and Guggenbiller had three blocks each, and Brooke Kahlig finished with five aces.
Fort Recovery’s junior varsity team also won, 25-15, 25-14. Emma Kahlig paced the offense with seven kills while Melissa Laux and Hailey Stammen had four kills apiece. Macy Shinabery contributed four aces.
Jay JV shut out
Jay County’s junior varsity football team gave up a touchdown in each of the third and fourth quarters in a 12-0 loss to the South Adams Starfires on Monday.
Kadin Ridenour, Christian Runkle and Sean Guntle had fumble recoveries for the Patriots (0-6). Guntle also recorded three tackles for a loss.
Ridenour had 110 rushing yards.
Fort freshmen win
VERSAILLES, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s freshman volleyball team picked up a road win Monday against the Versailles Tigers, 25-6, 25-17.
Allysen Fullenkamp had seven kills for the Indians. Amy Stammen and Sophie Pearson totaled five and four kills respectively. Brooklyn Jutte recorded 11 aces, and Faith Wendel finished with 14 assists.
Chiefs top Bears
The East Jay Middle School eighth grade volleyball team won its regular season finale Monday, 25-9, 25-19 against the Monroe Central Golden Bears.
Riah Champ posted four kills for the Chiefs (13-5). Madison Reier added six digs. Joske Herndon and Hannah Laux both had seven service points, and Laux led the team with four aces.
Results for the seventh grade match were not provided.
EJ beats Panthers
MUNCIE — The sixth grade volleyball team for East Jay won the final game of its season on Monday with a 25-10, 25-14 victory against the Muncie Southside Panthers.
Lani Muhlenkamp led the Chiefs with three aces, while Kayla Jetmore and Cami Barnett had three aces each. Maria Hemmelgarn and Elizabeth Barnett recorded two aces each, while Mya Kunkler, Jetmore and Barnett had one kill each.
