House fire
Fire did an estimated $15,000 to $20,000 in damage to a Dunkirk house Thursday.
Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department said the fire started near a furnace in the basement of a home owned by Cory Mock at 255 E. Commerce St. Firefighters were called to the scene at 1:10 p.m. and returned to the fire station at 3 p.m.
Damage was centered on the furnace and the floor joists above it. The cause of the fire has not been determined. Nine firefighters responded to the call.
Tool theft
Jay County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a tool theft at a work site at 3496 S. 200 West.
Wendell Frazier told police he had been hired to do some construction work at that property and someone had cut the locks off his construction trailer and taken a number of tools. Everything had been locked up Wednesday, but the theft was discovered Thursday morning.
Among the stolen items are two DeWalt cordless saws, a DeWalt Sawzall, a DeWalt impact tool, a DeWalt power saw, a DeWalt grinder, a DeWalt hammer drill and a Permalube five-gallon air compressor.
Recycling available
Jay County Solid Waste Management District will have recycling trailers available from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday across from Pennville Fire Station and 9 a.m. to noon in the parking lot at 220 Lincoln St., Portland.
