Schedule set for annual conference

The lineup for the National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture’s annual conference is set.

The conference, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 9 at Jay County Fairgrounds, will focus on “significant war chiefs.” 

Speakers for the event include historian Willard Sharp Jr., Potawatomi citizen Kyle Malott, University of Michigan professor Ben Secunda and Miami citizen Doug Peconge.

Hosting events

Jay County Public Library has a long list of Halloween-related activities scheduled, including its DIY Haunted House is scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday. Families can sign up to decorate their own haunted house.

On Oct. 24, the library will host a 6 p.m. visit from Silly Safaris. The live animal show will include reptiles, mammals, birds and bugs.

And on Oct. 25, the library will host pumpkin decorating from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Visitors will be able to decorate a paper pumpkin during the free event.
