Rubio was right: Trump a conman

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

This letter is in support of and in concurrence with Larry Chittum’s recent letter to The Commercial Review.

I feel like we are living in the midst of a George Orwell novel. Fact is fiction, truth is false and reality is mere illusion.

It is like, “Yeah I said it, but no I didn’t, but if I did it is your fault.”

The Great Orange One with the bad comb-over is redefining the meaning of incompetence. In his world ignorance is superior to knowledge, but even using the word ignorance seems to be wanting; given his woeful lack of intelligence and of history.

Vladimir Putin could have never imagined the overwhelming success of his meddling.

Edmund Burke said in 1795: “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for a few good men to do nothing.”

We are witnessing an unparalleled assault upon the institutions of our government, as well as an erosion of the core principles of our Constitution (“the press is the enemy of the people.”)

The President chose to stand in front of the people of the United States and utter those very words.

Did he somehow forget he took an oath to uphold the very document he chose to ignore? Like the Washington Post proclaims: “Democracy dies in darkness.”

But I would submit that democracy is dying in the full light of this president’s lying, his disregard for any resemblance of moral guidance, and his repeated disregard of Congressional oversight.

Marco Rubio said it best in the presidential primary in 2015: “Trump is a conman.”

Real news is fake news, fake news is real news.

A democracy succeeds with the consent of the governed, an autocracy succeeds without the consent of the governed because if you don’t agree your dissent is silenced by ridicule or worse, death.

Donald Trump doesn’t like people who disagree with him, he called people of his own party “human scum,” imagine what he calls his enemies. Trump is a demagogue.

I said that very thing in this newspaper way back in 2016, he has proven that so beyond any definition of the word.

As John Dickinson, one of the founding fathers said: “by uniting we stand, by dividing we fall.”

Let us hope to remain standing.
