Secret Families plan a breakfast
Taking Note
There will be a benefit breakfast for Secret Families Christmas Charity of Jay County from 8 to 10 a.m. on Nov. 2. The cost is $6 for all the pancakes and sausage you can eat.
All of the proceeds go to sponsor a bright Christmas for Jay County families.

Scholarship
The Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association is partnering with Ivy Tech Community College to offer volunteer first responders a chance to earn a two-year degree, tuition free.
Ivy Tech has committed $250,000 over two years to pay for tuition and fees for volunteer first responders to attend academic programs with the exception of Flight Aviation and General Studies.

Folks who have been reading Michael Koryta’s “If She Wakes” in advance of the author’s Nov. 7 visit to Jay County Public Library are invited to a discussion session on the book at noon on Nov. 1.
Revival set
Evangelist Fred Stevens and The Christianaires will be featured at a revival at Evangelical Methodist Church, 930 W. Main St., Portland, today and Saturday at 7 p.m. and again on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.
There will be a carry-in dinner after the Sunday morning service.
Blood drive
Friends and family of Rachel Osterholt Theurer will host the American Red Cross blood drive in her memory from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 29 at Jay Community Center.
Osterholt died after suffering at amniotic fluid embolism during childbirth on Nov. 1, 2015.
She received 27 units of red blood cells, 12 units of plasma and three units of platelets in the effort to save her life.
Thus far, 314 donations have been made in her honor.

The Jay County Historical Society will hold its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 5, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Portland.
The program for the evening will feature “video moments from Jay County’s past,” a compilation by Rob Weaver.
Reservations must be received no later than 4 p.m. on Nov. 5. Cost of the dinner meeting is $10 per person.
