MUNCIE — Crosby Heniser and Simon Dirksen swept their respective singles matches.

Both Patriot doubles teams did too.

Jay County High School’s boys tennis team won the Muncie Central Invitational on Saturday, the first time winning the tournament under coach Scott Miller.

The Patriots (3-1) defeated host Muncie Central 4-1 then blanked Blackford, 5-0.

Heniser, a sophomore No. 1 singles player, won his matches 6-2, 7-5 and 6-0, 5-7, 10-8. Dirksen, playing at No. 2 singles, got 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0 victories.

Sheldon Upp and Gavin Myers won their No. 1 doubles contests by 6-4, 6-1 margins. At No. 2 doubles, Darius Esparza and Calvin Whitney earned 6-0, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-0 victories.



Tribe 2-1 at invite

ST. HENRY, Ohio — The Fort Recovery volleyball team went 2-1 Saturday in the St. Henry Invitational.

The Tribe (7-1), which travels to take on state-line rival Jay County at 6 p.m. tonight, defeated Buckeye Central 23-25, 25-14, 25-14 before a 25-23, 20-25, 25-16 win against Russia. The Indians then fell to host St. Henry 25-22, 25-19 in a non-Midwest Athletic Conference matchup.

Whitley Rammel paced the Indian offense by totaling 26 kills over the three matches, and Paige Jutte was close behind with 25 kills. Olivia Patch contributed 25 kills and led her team with six blocks. Chloe Showalter set up her teammates to the tune of 72 assists.

Kierra Wendel racked up 39 digs and four aces, both were team highs, and Paige Fortkamp tallied 19 digs.



Fort freshmen win

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s freshman volleyball team knocked off the Coldwater Cavaliers on Saturday, 25-14, 25-23.

With the win, the Indians moved to 4-0 on the year.

Individual stats were not provided.
