JCHS spikers fourth

MONROEVILLE — The Patriots made easy work of the Raiders after losing their pool play opener.

They lost their third-place match as well.

Jay County High School’s volleyball team was 1-2 and finished in fourth place Saturday in the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament at Heritage.

The Patriots (6-3), who have lost three of their last four matches after starting the season 5-0, fell to Heritage in the first match of pool play, 25-15, 25-15.

Jay County rebounded by defeating Southern Wells 25-7, 25-9, and lost to South Adams 25-17, 25-23 in the battle for third place.

Alana Kunkler led the team in kills (12), aces (seven) and blocks (four). Natalie Miles posted eight kills and 12 digs, and Hallie Fields contributed five kills and eight digs. Isabella Rodgers tallied 11 assists.

Heritage went on to win the tournament title against Woodlan.



FR debuts fourth

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The first Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association poll was released Sunday night, and Fort Recovery debuted at No. 6 in Division IV.

The Indians (9-1) received 189 points, more than 100 behind top-ranked and Midwest Athletic Conference rival St. Henry (291), which received 15 votes for first place.

New Bremen, another MAC rival, came in at No. 2 with 280 points and six first-place votes. Rounding out the top five are Fort Loramie (223), Monroeville (202) and Calvert (195).

MAC schools Marion Local (12th) and Minster (tied for 19th) also make an appearance on the first poll of the season.

Seven of the nine Midwest Athletic Conference schools are ranked in the top 20 in their respective divisions. The Coldwater Cavaliers (fourth) and defending state champion Versailles Tigers (15th) are in Division III.



Indians top Tigers

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams both picked up wins against the Ansonia Tigers on Saturday morning.

The eighth graders grabbed a 25-22, 25-19 win, while the seventh graders had a 25-11, 25-10 victory.

Mara Pearson recorded four kills to lead the FRMS eighth graders, who also got four digs each from Paige Guggenbiller and Natalie Brunswick as well as a pair of aces from Allison Knapke.

Kennedy Muhlenkamp and Emma Will paced the seventh grade squad with 12 and 11 aces respectively. Ella Schoen finished with a pair of kills.
