YORKTOWN — Gavin Muhlenkamp comes from a family of goal scorers.
His sister, Kendra, graduated last season second on the Patriots’ all-time scoring list.
To match his sister’s output, Gavin got the first two out of the way.
Muhlenkamp scored the first two goals his career Monday, powering the Jay County High School boys soccer team to a 3-1 win against sectional rival Yorktown.
Alex McFarland also tallied his first career goal as Jay County (4-2) went into halftime leading 3-0.
Cristian Marentes, Brayden Sprunger and McFarland also had assists.
Ian Ruiz turned away eight Yorktown shots.
Jay County’s junior varsity team also won, 2-1. Mathias Perod and Jayden Maymi recorded goals, while Kaleb Meadows had an assist.
Tennis tops SA
BERNE — Jay County’s boys tennis team defeated the South Adams Starfires on Monday, 4-1.
Christian Romero knocked off Travis Clingenpeel 6-2, 6-2 in their No. 2 singles match, while Simon Dirksen got a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Brayden Grandlinard at No. 3 singles.
Sheldon Upp and Gavin Myers picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles against Camden Hyman and Alec Neuenschwander.
Frankie Crump and Darius Esparza earned a forfeit at No. 2 doubles.
Crosby Heniser, the Patriots’ No. 1 singles player, dropped his match to James Fosnaugh 6-2, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
EJ 8th wins
MUNCIE — East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade volleyball team defeated the Muncie Southside Panthers on Monday, 25-17, 25-20.
The Chief seventh graders lost 25-18, 18-25, 15-9, and the sixth grade team fell 25-11, 25-22.
Bella Denton had 10 points, including two aces, and three kills for the eighth grade team (3-0). Brenna Haines and Maggie Dillon tallied four aces each.
Morgan DeHoff tallied four kills and four aces for the EJMS seventh graders (2-1) in the defeat.
Maria Hemmelgarn led the sixth grade team (0-1) with five service points.
