A day after battling with the Bruins, the Patriots got roughed up by the Jets.

The Jay County High School boys tennis team lost 5-0 Tuesday to the Adams Central Jets.

The loss puts the Patriots at 5-4 for the year.

Crosby Heniser, a JCHS sophomore, lost his No. 1 singles match to Lucas Harvey 6-1, 6-1, while Simon Dirksen fell to Austin Maldeney at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0.

At No. 3 singles, Reece Moser beat Patriot senior Christian Romero in their No. 3 singles bout, 6-0, 6-0.

Jay County’s No. 1 doubles team of Sheldon Upp and Gavin Myers fell to Lucas VanDeWeg and Jared Hildebrand 6-1, 6-0. Frankie Crump and Darius Esparza lost to Malakai Moore and Elijah Moore at No. 2 doubles 6-3, 6-1.

The Patriot junior varsity team lost 5-1. Ralph Link and Allen Dues knocked off Kole Andrews and Landon Kaehr 8-7 (7-5).



Jay girls win

The Jay County girls golf team finished first Tuesday in a match with the Southern Wells Raiders and Bluffton Tigers at Portland Golf Club.

The Patriots finished with 200 to win. The Raiders were second with 211, two strokes ahead of the Tigers.

Eden Basford and Mackenzie Parks led the Patriots with their rounds of 46 and 48, respectively. Erika Heitkamp shot 52 for the team’s third-best score, and Abby Huey completed the team total by carding a 54.

Teá Nichols also competed but her 57 did not factor into the team’s final score.




Tribe shatters record

ARCANUM — Fort Recovery’s girls golf team shattered its school record Tuesday in beating the Arcanum Trojans 183-199 at Beechwood Golf Course.

The Indians shaved eight strokes off the team’s previous best, set Aug. 22.

Jalyn Bruns paced the record-breaking effort by shooting a 43. Shelby Stammen and Alli Vaughn were two strokes behind, and Kendra Dues shot 50 to round out the team total.

Macy Brunswick and Paige Bihn also competed and they shot matching scores of 57.



Patriots fall to Jets

MONROE — The Jay County junior varsity football team lost to the Adams Central Jets on Monday, 50-12.

The Patriots (0-3) allowed 21 points in the first quarter and were down 35-6 at halftime.

Zach Mayfield had 70 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Daedrick Retz collected 50 yards and a TD on the ground as well.
