Law opens doors for vets, families
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
President Donald Trump signed into law on July 30, 2019, a bill that has been long overdue.
It’s called the LEGION (Let Everyone Get Involved in Opportunities for National Service) Act.
This bill opens the door for approximately six million veterans to access American Legion programs and benefits for which they previously had not been eligible. Eligible criteria changes from seven war ers to two. The new dates are from April 6, 1917, to Nov. 11, 1918, and Dec. 7, 1941 to a date to be determined later by the federal government.
The passing of this bill by a bipartisan Congress for American veterans will also open up opportunities for family members to become Sons of the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary.
I would encourage all veterans and their families to take advantage of this opportunity.
