Speaker series continues Thursday
Taking Note
John Jay Center for Learning’s Fall Speaker Series will continue next week with a presentation about strengthening our local food system.
John Mischler of Goshen College will speak about sustainable agriculture practices. He will also discuss the role of higher education and experimental learning in local food systems.
There will be two sessions Thursday — 2 p.m. at John Jay and 6 p.m. at Pennville Custom Cabinetry. The afternoon session is free. Reservations are required for the evening session, which will include a dinner.
Other upcoming presentations in the speaker series include “Learning Through Travel” with John and & LaNae Abnet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 3 and “Putting Indiana History on the Map” with Melissa Gentry of Ball State University Libraries at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10.
Kicking off
Swiss Village in Berne will kick off Active Aging Week with a classic caris show from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the parking lot at Muselman Wellness Pavilion.
An Andy Griffith squad car from The Andy Griffith Show will be featured. There will also be refreshments and live music.

Jay County Civic Theatre will hold auditions for its production of the musical “Frozen Jr.” from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 30 and Oct. 2 at Arts Place, 131 E.?Walnut St., Portland.
The show is for performers 18-and-younger. Jason McGraw will direct the show, and Reid Knuth will be the musical director.

Cornerstone Center for the Arts in Muncie will host a showing of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” at 8 p.m. Sept. 28.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 the night of the event. Doors will open for general admission at 7:30 p.m.
Screenings set
Adams Memorial Hospital and Fort Wayne Dermatology will team to offer a free skin cancer screening clinic Oct. 3 at Adams Medical Group in Geneva. Those interested in scheduling a screening can call (260) 724-2145.
