CENTERVILLE — Two players tallied their first career goals.
Another had a pair of helpers for the first time.
The team’s returning leader in scoring had a multi-goal game for the first time this season.
Jay County High School’s boys soccer team dominated its way to a 7-0 victory against the Centerville Bulldogs on Saturday morning.
The win moves the Patriots to 7-3 on the season, the best start since the 2009 team posted the same record through its first 10 games.
Cristian Marentes scored twice for the first time this year and also had an assist. John Gierhart and Kaleb Meadows both scored a goal, notching the first of their careers.
Hunter Shumaker, Gavin Muhlenkamp and Brinnin Wasson also had goals. Muhlenkamp leads the squad with eight goals, one more than Marentes.
Orlando Castro recorded two assists, the first two of his career. Muhlenkamp and Gierhart had helpers as well.
Ian Ruiz tallied one save to get his fourth shutout of the season.
Chief 8th goes 2-2
SELMA — East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade volleyball team went 2-2 Saturday to finish fifth in the Selma Invitational.
The seventh grade Chiefs lost all four matches, and the sixth graders were 2-2.
East Jay’s eighth graders lost to Muncie Northisde 25-14, 20-25, 15-14 and Yorktown 25-9, 25-12. They rebounded by beating Daleville 25-19, 22-25, 15-6 and Selma 25-22, 25-23.
Full scores for the seventh graders were not provided.
The sixth graders lost to Wes-Del (25-21, 20-25, 15-13) and Daleville (25-20, 25-11) before beating Cowan (25-13, 25-16) and Northside (25-13, 25-13).
Sophie Saxman led the eighth graders in kills (26), service points (24) and aces (10), while also adding 21 digs and 15 assists. Brenna Haines had a team-high 30 digs. Joske Herndon recorded 25 assists, and Bella Denton notched 14 kills.
Cassie Petro paced the seventh graders with six kills. Meredith Dirksen tallied 11 aces, and Jasmine Esparza finished with six digs and four aces.
Kayla Jetmoe had 10 aces and one kill for the sixth graders. Maria Hemmelgarn contributed three kills and seven aces, while Lilly Johnson had three aces.
