Music works to enhance our lives

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:

Right here in Portland, students both young and old are honing their skills with their instruments and growing as musicians.

As a musician who has been involved with Arts Place and the MusicWorks program for several years in different capacities, I recommend that members of and around our community consider taking lessons because music does work.

Music has had a significant impact on my life, and that started at Arts Place. When I was a freshman in high school, I decided to become a student of the classical guitar taking lessons at Arts Place. Not only did I grow as a musician, but my grades improved in school, I grew as a critical thinker and my attitude for problem solving improved tremendously.

Following my time at Arts Place, my studies led me to Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, one of the best music schools in the world, where I graduated with a degree in classical guitar performance. I owe a great debt of gratitude to Arts Place for many of my successes in life, and I am proud to be a part of Arts Place today teaching guitar.

Arts Place also offers scholarships for potential students, and it is easy to apply. If you qualify, you may be able to obtain quality music training that could enrich your future like it did mine.

If you or your children are interested in taking lessons, I recommend that you reach out to Arts Place by phone at (260) 726-4809 or checkout their website at artsland.org to discover what they have to offer.

It is my sincere hope that all who are interested start lessons because music does work.

Sincerely,

Zec Landers
