Meets council
Jay County’s Colton Bickel met the Decatur City Council this week in his new role as economic development director for Adams County.
A Jay County High School graduate with a degree from IPFW’s Doermer School of Business, Bickel served as economic development executive director for Blackford County before taking the Adams County post on Sept. 3. He succeeds Larry Macklin.
“I think he’s going to be an excellent replacement,” Mayor Ken Meyer told The Decatur Daily Democrat.
Partnering
Ardagh is partnering with Founders Brewing Co. of Michigan to produce new 12-ounce specially designed glass bottles for the brewery’s Solid Gold premium lager and CBS (Canadian Breakfast Stout).
Ardagh Group, Glass – North America has glass container plants in Dunkirk and Winchester.
Solid Gold was originally released in cans in 2018 and is now available for the first time in 12oz glass bottles, sold in 12-pack cases in select markets across the U.S.
Barrel-aged champ CBS, previously released exclusively in 750-mililiter glass bottles, is scheduled for release Nov. 1 in 12-ounce glass bottles for the first time. CBS is the fifth and final release in Founders’ 2019 barrel-aged series.
Big donation
Tyson Foods Inc., parent of Tyson Mexican Original of Portland, has announced a donation of almost 170,000 pounds or nearly 700,000 meals for Feeding America food banks and their partner agencies throughout Arkansas in honor of Hunger Action Month.
The company has donated a total of 3.8 million pounds of product in its home state this year.
Hold the beef
McDonald’s on Thursday announced plans to test a plant-based burger using Beyond Meat patties in Canada.
According to a press release, the 12-week test will start Sept. 30 at 28 restaurants in Ontario.
The item will appear on those menus as the P.L.T, which stands for plant, lettuce and tomato.
Burger King recently launched a version of its Whopper made with the Impossible burger nationwide.
Drone delivery
A small town in southwest Virginia will soon be the test site for residents to have everything from drugstore necessities to sweets from a local bakery delivered to their home in minutes via a drone, ABC News reported this week.
“The national drugstore is teaming up with the aviation tech company Wing to launch the delivery service,” ABC reported.
“With this pilot, Walgreens will be in a unique position to capitalize on the convenience of drone delivery if and when it should expand, with approximately 78 percent of the U.S. population living within five miles of a Walgreens store,” Vish Sankaran, chief innovation officer at Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc., said in a prepared statement.
Jimmy bought
The Chicago Tribune reported this week that Atlanta-based Inspire Brands, parent company of Arby’s, is buying Illinois-based Jimmy John’s Sandwiches.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Jimmy John’s was founded 36 years ago in Charleston, Illinois, and is now based in Champaign.
Hartford up
WIPB-TV, the Muncie-based public television station, is now working on its latest in the “Now Entering …” series.
This time around, the focus is on Hartford City.
The program is expected to air in January of 2020.
Portland was the first community to be featured in the series.
