MUNCIE — The Patriots had another strong outing Saturday. A freshman once again led the way.
Jay County High School’s cross country team finished third Saturday in the Delta Invitational at Muncie Sportsplex.
Cathedral scored 26 points to win, with host Delta a distant second with 57 points. Jay County had 76 points.
Cathedral won the boys race too for the sweep by scoring 20 points. Greenfield-Central (54) was the runner-up and Blackford (115) placed third. Jay County totaled 189 for eighth place.
Lydia Keihn, a JCHS freshman, had a time of 20 minutes, 25.8 seconds, to cross the finish line in sixth as the top Patriot runner. Sophia Fugiett was 12th, four spots ahead of teammate Raven Weaver. Lindy Wood (17th) and Lita Chowning was (17th).
Aaron Funkhouser led the JCHS boys by taking 33rd. Ben Hunger and Mitchell Winner were back-to-back in 35th and 36th respectively. Dustin Harris ended 42nd and Seth Wilson was 43rd.
Tribe girls fifth
BOTKINS, Ohio — The Fort Recovery girls cross country team was fifth Saturday in the Best in the West Botkins Invitational at Botkins Community Park.
Columbus Grove was the champion with 42 points. Fort Loramie had 68 points for second and Versailles totaled 79 for third. Fort Recovery had 106 points, two behind fourth-place Anna.
Columbus Grove won the boys’ race too with 51 points, four ahead of runner-up Anna. Botkins totaled 81 points for third. Fort Recovery had 306 points for 13th.
Megan Diller was the top FRHS girl by taking 13th in 22:40. Alexis Wendel was 17th, Hanna Metzger ended 30th, Caitlin Wendel finished 32nd and Alyssa Henrichs finished 35th.
Drew Muhlenkamp had a time of 18:46 to pace the Tribe boys by finishing 30th. Jared Timmerman was 64th, Connor Gower ended 69th, John Knapke crossed the line 105th and Jaden McEldowney placed 112th.
Chiefs runner-up
MUNCIE — East Jay Middle School’s girls cross country team was the runner-up Saturday in the Delta Invitational at Muncie Sportsplex.
Host Delta won with 59 points, while East Jay finished with 79 points. Richmond had 104 for third. West Jay did not qualify for a team score.
Selma was the winner of the boys race with 59 points. Daleville (93) and Richmond (110) were second and third, respectively. East Jay had 118 points for fourth, while West Jay was 14th with 350 points.
Alexis Sibray was the top EJMS girl by finishing sixth, two spots ahead of teammate Ayla Grabner. Emily Manor was 18th, Paityn Wendel finished 20th and Mallory Winner placed 32nd.
Makinsey Murphy was the lone WJMS girl and she was 21st.
Cameron Clark had a third-place finish for the Chief boys. Tony Wood took 10th, Creed Beiswanger placed 19th, Gabe Pinkerton finished 33rd and Carson Davis completed the team total by ending 57th.
Jackson Edwards led West Jay by taking 50th. Liam Garringer placed 67th, Kamon Grubbs ended 71st, Aiden Stephens was 90th and Lukes Powers placed 109th.
